Barfi Movie Review by Omar Qureshi
‘Barfi’ – Now this is called international quality cinema. Breathtaking, like a cloud on a wing, or a slice of barfi. If a French film like ‘Life Is Beautiful’ could be applauded on an International platform, then this goes a step further. It takes the concept of ‘Be Happy’ further. Two people in Love, how can it have conditions? Ranbir is a happy-smiliey deaf-mute who believes that Love & Happiness are solutions to Life. He falls in love with Ileana D’Cruz, but her ‘normal’ family convinces her that the world doesn’t see love. But the deficiencies. So she marries a rich Bengali man, but he makes less conversation than the Mute Barfi. & Love is missing. Barfi turns to an autistic Priyanka Chopra & an incredible bond of love develops between 2 ‘special’ people – different from a world seeking perfection. Their love brings tears of joy to ur eyes, its that unabashed & unconditional. The moments are beautiful in this film. The moments are beautifully captured, the film beautifully shot in Darjeeling & Kolkata. The script is simple yet powerful. But what takes this amazing film to beyond the stratosphere are the mindblowing performances. Ileana is fab, looks lovely too. Priyanka plays a tough role yet comes out on top. She’s outstanding as the autistic Jhilmil. Anyone eles would be OTT, but PC rocks. But Ranbir Kapoor, man!!! He is sensational. What expressions, what an act, what emotions, what touches. He is superb. That extra half star only for his acts. He will win all awards again. Do not expect heavy massy dialogues or item songs in this beautiful silent film that speaks so much. It’s for those who Love – from the heart, not the mind, or with words and those whose love has class. 4.5 stars for ‘Barfi’. Unmissable!
